Program Background

Through my volunteer work with elementary school choirs, the need for supplemental arts enrichment in the public school system has become increasingly evident. Spark the Arts aims to provide public school children with the opportunity to experience professional chamber music, dance and choral experiences through an in-school concert series. We have a focus on highlighting diversity in the arts and creating an inclusive experience for the students participating in our program. We believe when children see themselves in the artists on stage, we are fostering a sense of belonging for them in the arts venues of our city.

Our Objectives

  • Spark a love, understanding and appreciation of all art forms for children who would otherwise not have exposure

  • Create a sense of belonging in the arts for children across all racial, social, cultural and economic backgrounds

  • Present artists of diverse backgrounds, which reflect the cultural landscape of Toronto

  • Nurture and build confidence in students

  • Broaden and diversify future audiences of the arts

  • Provide meaningful performance and community engagement opportunities for arts professionals
